My Rip Van Winkle Moment

We left Japan in 1998, out of a wondrous conjunction  that it was now time to return to the U.S. and raise our son there, and a position opening up in the U.S.

So despite being back since a couple of times since packing up for home and keeping up with the news there, my clock so to speak has stopped at Japan in 1998.

You might then be able to imagine my surprise when talking today to one of the engineers sent here from Japan. I noticed he sported pierced earlobes and a small tattoo.

Either Japanese companies have gotten much less picky about who they hire or Japan has changed more than I had imagined.
