Getting My Gaijin Up

This article from today’s Wall Street Journal did just that.

The news about the alarming resurgence of the Japanese neo- nationalists is not a new news story.  That didn’t get my gaijin up.  What did was the very loose claim by the article’s author that these neo-nationalists are to be compared to the Tea Party in the United States.

That is flat wrong.  While I do not espouse Tea Party dogma and in fact see them as more harmful than helpful, coupling them with the Japanese neo-nationalists and what they represent in Japan’s past and current history is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.  Somebody at the WJS’s Japan office seriously misunderstands the U.S. political landscape  and perhaps some editor at the WSJ was not as alert as could be in reviewing the article.
